Attempted (and failed) Viral Marketing

This morning, Pita Pit NZ has released a game. I can only assume that it’s an attempt at Viral Marketing. And while it seems to be getting a lot of people playing at the moment, it’s still a fail.

The game is terrible. The idea is to move the Pita around the screen and pick up the ingredients. The ingredients will, quite often, just go straight through the Pita. You can sit for a minute waiting for the last ingredient to appear. You’re supposed to add the sauce or the spread, but they don’t tell you that – nor do they tell you that you’re only supposed to add one. And they only give you 20 seconds bonus for making the Pita. When you’ve been waiting for a minute and a half for the last ingredient, 20 seconds isn’t going to make it worthwhile.

I have no idea how much they’ve invested in this game, but I expect it’s going to just annoy people more than anything. Making people frustrated with your brand isn’t a good idea. If I were Pita Pit, I’d be asking for my money back from whoever they hired to develop the game.
