What living at the Halls of Residence taught me

When I started university, I went to the Halls of Residence. In fact, There was some awesome things that come from being at the halls. There’s also some shitty things. However, there is one thing that being at the halls taught me.

People who live by the saying “You first eat with your eyes” are seriously missing out.

If you aren’t going to eat something because it doesn’t look good, you’re a complete and utter tool. To be honest, the worst thing about the halls is often the (what seems to be) really, really bad food. However, I found the issue about two weeks before I finished my first year. It wasn’t that the food was all bad. It was that the food that looked the best often tasted the worst, and vice versa. And let’s be honest, that makes sense. If you’re putting all your effort into making something look good, you’re not thinking about taste and if you’re putting all your effort into making something taste good, you’re not thinking about how it looks.

So, here’s my challenge to you. Next time you see food that you think doesn’t look like a masterpiece, forget that and have a taste. Do it with an open mind. You might just be surprised.
