New Zealand Music Awards: The results

The Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards are done for another year, with The Naked and Famous and Brooke Fraser equally taking out the night.

There are, as always with the VNZMAs, calls saying these awards aren’t showcasing the New Zealand’s best talent. To me, while I could name a few bands out of Hamilton that definitely deserve to win some tuis, the VNZMAs are about celebrating New Zealand’s top musicians. That doesn’t mean they are the most talented. They are the best of those who have been scouted. That’s the thing with being a musician – it’s difficult to get to the top, no matter how good you are.

The awards on the night went to:

Best Group: The Naked and Famous

Best Female Solo Artist: Ladi6

Best Pop Album: Brooke Fraser – Flags
Best Alternative Album: The Naked and Famous – Passive Me, Aggressive You
Best Urban/Hip-Hop Album: Ladi6 – The Liberation Of
Best Roots Album: TrinityRoots – Music Is Choice
Best Music Video: Special Problems – Punching In A Dream (The Naked and Famous)
Best Electronica Album: Tiki Taane – In The Light Of The World
Best Maori Album: Tiki Taane – In The Light Of The World
Best Gospel/Christian Album: Parachute Band – Love Without Measure
Best Classical Album: New Zealand String Quartet – Notes From A Journey
People’s Choice Award: Brooke Fraser
Highest Selling Single: Brooke Fraser
Highest Selling NZ Album: Brooke Fraser – Flags
